Assessment for Children and Adolescents

Dr. Stokes offers comprehensive psychological evaluations for clinical and educational purposes for children (ages 6 and over). She provides evaluations for children to assess emotional, behavioral and developmental problems. Typical evaluations include assessment of intelligence, adaptive functioning, cognition, attention and psychoeducational achievement.

 

Psychological Evaluation is a valuable tool that is often necessary to better understand how an individual is functioning from a variety of perspectives including academically, emotionally and behaviorally. Testing also serves to help clarify many other clinical needs and concerns. By participating in a psychological assessment, an individual can be provided specific recommendations that can aid in numerous ways to help direct treatment and enhance interventions in academic, psychological and medical settings.

Common Reasons for Testing in Children/Adolescents

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Used to assess for attention problems and rule in/out other academic concerns

  • Learning Disorders (LD) and/or Academic Problems: Used to assess intellectual functioning and current achievement levels

  • Gifted and Talented: Used to assess intellectual functioning and academic needs

  • Emotional/Behavioral Problems: Used to assess clinical, personality and cognitive issues related to current emotional and behavioral functioning

Assessment for Adults

Dr. Stokes offers comprehensive psychological assessment for adults struggling with mood disorders, learning concerns, and emotional difficulties. Therapeutic assessment of personality is also provided to aid individuals in better understanding their personality structure and how they interact with the world (others) around them.

Common Reasons for Testing in Adults

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder - Used to assess for attention problems and rule in/out other academic concerns or occupational difficulties

  • Learning Disabilities - Used to assess intellectual functioning and current achievement levels

  • Differential Diagnosis - Used to assess complex clinical issues which may involved emotional/behavioral difficulties, substance abuse, thought disorder and/or cognitive concerns

  • Personality Assessment - Used to assess clinical and personality patterns and characteristics as they related to overall emotional/behavioral functioning

  • Pre-Surgical Assessments for Bariatric Surgery - Used to assess clinical and personality characteristics related to specific situations such as gastric bypass surgery

All psychological assessment services include a feedback session in which Dr. Stokes explains the findings from the testing and provides comprehensive recommendations. Consultation with teachers, school personnel, physicians and other referring parties is also available.
